Profile

Contura is a medical technology company based in Denmark that develops and commercializes soft tissue fillers. Contura was established in 2000 and has been wholly owned by Idosan A/S (Denmark), since 2002.
Contura, Inc. was established in the United States in 2006.

Contura’s soft tissue fillers target both the medical and aesthetic markets. Our two main products are Aquamid® and Bulkamid®. Both products significantly enhance the quality of people’s lives.

Aquamid® is a soft volume filler used to rejuvenate the face and enhance facial features. To date, plastic surgeons, dermatologists and cosmetic physicians have performed more than 300,000 Aquamid® injections. Aquamid® is available through a network of distributors covering 40 countries. A major clinical trial of Aquamid® is currently being conducted in the United States.

Bulkamid® is a urethral bulking agent used in the treatment of female urinary incontinence. The procedure is performed under endoscopic control using the Bulkamid® Urethral Bulking System (patents pending). Clinical studies have been performed in Europe, and the FDA has granted Bulkamid® Investigational Device Exemption, approving it for a clinical trial in the United States. Since 2007, ETHICON, a Johnson & Johnson company, has held exclusive worldwide distribution rights for Bulkamid, and the product is now available through ETHICON in Europe.

Neither Aquamid® nor Bulkamid® is approved for sale in the United States.

Contura is developing new treatments and solutions that will allow our soft tissue filler technology to make a significant difference to patients.

Contura’s development, manufacturing and testing processes are in compliance with the European Medical Devices directive 93/42/EEC. Our processes also meet the standards required to obtain ISO 13485:2003 and ISO 9001:2000 certification.

Contura’s head office is located in Copenhagen, and the office of our United States subsidiary is in Jersey City, New Jersey. Contura is currently building a new manufacturing facility adjacent to its head office in Denmark. The facility is expected to be finished in 2008.
