19-02-2011 - Dr Monheit will be presenting at the South Beach meeting

“Aquamid® can be a great complementary product to the aesthetic portfolio offered at clinics” says Dr. Gary Monheit

Dr. Monheit, a lead investigator in Aquamid US pivotal study, will be presenting at the South Beach meeting, 19th February 2011

In a recent survey conducted among US-based dermatologists and plastic surgeons who regularly practice aesthetics in their clinics, more than 85% indicated they would be glad to add Aquamid to their current portfolio. This comes as a response to the growing demand of patients, who are already experienced with biodegradable fillers, to find a solution that may sustain a satisfactory aesthetic result with less repeat treatments and minimal complications. “Such products don’t exist yet in the US market, and when we started the study I was curious to investigate how Aquamid would live up to its promises”, Dr. Monheit says.

In the pivotal study Aquamid has proven to have a safety profile similar to Restylane over a 12 month follow-up period, and sustained those safety results during the study extension of additional 12 months. The majority of the treatment-related adverse events - over 85% in both treatment arms - were considered mild and in general transient, with most of the events resolved within 3 days. A 5-year follow-up clinical study conducted in Europe exhibited similar safety results, as well as more than 95% patient satisfaction at the study’s end-point.

Aquamid is one of the most well-documented products outside the US with extensive information from 10 years of usage experience in the global market. “The completion of the pivotal 24-month follow-up study with very satisfactory results marks an important milestone in the history of Contura International”, say CEO Michael Peytz.

Smooth and fluid during injection, Aquamid is integrated with the natural facial structure for the correction of wrinkles and folds. Aquamid guarantees patient comfort as it is easily injected through a fine needle into the subcutis, adhering to the tissue and creating a supporting network that lifts and softens the effects of ageing from underneath. During its 10 years of existence in the global market, Aquamid has proven to provide a satisfactory answer to the demand for long-lasting solutions, as well as volumizing solutions that can reshape and sculpt patients’ facial features. “Aquamid can be an interesting addition to our market,”  adds Dr. Monheit, “and I look forward to its introduction to the US market”.
